I have written many times in the past about the fabulous IHG Pointbreaks program. It is one of the best deals bar none in hotel redemptions at only 5,000 IHG points per night. When you can get hotels like this stunning Intercontinental in Lhasa, Tibet for just 5,000 points instead of the normal 35,000 a night it is a steal! I am a big IHG fan. From their awesome PointBreaks rooms for only 5,000 a night to their Big Win Promotions where I earned 132,000 and 101,000 points respectively, IHG keeps giving me so many points I can’t even use them all! I am going to complete the Into the Nights promotion as well before the end of the year and get 2 free nights at any IHG property in the world! I have my sights on the Intercontinental Bora Bora. 🙂 Continue reading “Earn 50K+ IHG Points with the IHG Set Your Sights Promotion”
IHG Pointbreaks are one of the best values in hotel awards at only 5,000 points a night. I love this program and was able to stay 15 nights free on my recent China trip using Pointbreaks rooms at amazing hotels like this Intercontinental in Hangzhou.
IHG just announced which hotels are on the latest list which will become bookable Monday, November 24 at around 8:30 AM EST. It isn’t a bad list and I picked a few of the properties to highlight here that looked nice to me. Any of these are available for just 5,000 points a night and if you want to know how to book them read this article we wrote about how to book an IHG Pointbreaks room. But act fast! The good properties such as the Intercontinental and Crowne Plaza hotels sell out of 5000 point rooms within a few hours usually. One of the most exciting times for me is once again here: The IHG Pointbreaks list! This is when IHG drops award redemption prices from 10,000-50,000 points to just 5,000 points a night. This is the best deal in hotel redemptions and I recently took advantage of 17 free nights with it on my trip to China. IHG just recently had a special where you could have bought 100K points for just $575. If you want to see how to book these hotels, check out our primer article on How to Book IHG Pointbreaks Hotels. This list went live about 2 hours ago so book fast if you see a property you are interested. You can always cancel the day before arrival and get your points back with no penalties (cancellation penalties may vary so make sure to read the details when you book.) Intercontinental Hotels Group is currently having a special ending today September 22, 2014 where they are offering a 50 or 100% bonus on points that are purchased from them. If you have read our recent article on Buying Airline Miles, you know that this isn’t normally a good deal. However the points in this case are so cheap that it may make sense in some cases.
IHG has announced their latest promotion and it is awesome! It is the latest in the Big Win series of promotions that give you bonus points for meeting certain goals. I scored 132,000 during my first Big Win then another 101,000 during the second big win while I was in China. These offers are customized to your recent stay pattern and there are hundreds of variations. Most of them include some amount of stays combined with other tasks such as downloading their mobile app or other things. But the payoff is big! Most people get two nights at any IHG hotel in the world!
How does two free nights at the Intercontinental Bora Bora sound? That might be where I use my 2 free nights! This would make this promotion worth $1600+ since nights here run about $800 a night!
Since tomorrow is the release of the latest IHG Pointbreaks list of rooms you can book for just 5000 points a night, I wanted to do a quick article about how to book it. This is the best way to use your IHG points by far. This is how I am using the 101,000 IHG points I earned during their last Big Win promotion! You will obviously need an IHG Rewards account and at least 5,000 points to book a night. If you don’t have an IHG account yet, why not check out our Getting Started page to sign up for free. IHG Pointbreaks are a list of 5000 point per night hotel awards that they release every other month. There are 167 hotels on the list this time. They are normally much more per night, sometimes as much as 50,000 points, so 5000 is a steal! I love IHG Pointbreaks Hotels! In my eyes this is the best value in hotel award stays. I stayed 11 nights for free (55,000 points total!) during my April trip to China at incredible hotels like the Intercontinental Hangzhou. We have written in the past about the awesome IHG Pointbreaks promotions. When we earn over 100K points from a hotel promotion, the Pointbreaks list is the best way to get 20 free nights from those points.
IHG has released their latest Pointbreaks list from May 28-July 31, 2014. While it isn’t as good as the last one in my opinion (due to the fact that there are no Intercontinental hotels on the list this time), there are still some interesting properties. All of these are available for the super bargain of only 5000 IHG points per night! Here are the ones that seemed interesting to me, although you should take a look at the list and see which ones match with your travel needs.
All of these for only 5000 points a night! What a deal!
In the past I have always recommended you make individual reservations for each night so that if your plans change you can just drop off the nights you don’t need. However with this latest PointBreak list they are limiting you to two reservations per hotel. This means you will have to have a bit firmer plans when you make your reservations.
I wrote previously about the awesome Big Win promotion that IHG brought back again for this quarter. My Big Win offer was for 74,000 points if I completed 6 stays with certain requirements. In the previous Big Win offer, I scored an amazing 132,000 points! In my recent trip to China, I used 55,000 of those points to get 11 free Pointsbreak nights all at beautiful Crowne Plaza or Intercontinental Hotels. During my other nights I was strategic about where I stayed to help meet the requirements for the current Big Win offer.
Specifically, I stayed at 4 Holiday Inn Express with a cost of $46, $38, $34, and $75. I also stayed at 2 Holiday Inns at a cost of $84 (this rate included breakfast) and $54. These stays were all I needed to get the 74,000 Big Win! China luckily has some pretty affordable room rates with the exchange rate which kept my total cost down. I was able to stack several of the available promo codes which gave me at least 3000 for every stay. I was also able to get 6% cashback on some of the bookings by booking through Upromise.com.
So when all is said and done (not including pending cashback), I spent $331 and earned 101,000 points. One way to look at this is I paid $0.003 per point(one third of a cent per point!), but since I received lodging each night that I needed, that isn’t completely accurate. Since I will use these points for 5000 point a night rooms around the world, I like to think that I paid $331, received 6 nights worth of value, then they threw in another 20 free nights at Crowne Plaza or Intercontinental hotels for free! How can you beat that?
This Big Win promotion has finished but make sure you keep coming back to our site to find out about the next one! Another option if you have missed this is to just sign up for the Chase IHG Rewards Mastercard that includes 80,000 points as a sign up bonus. This card is one of the select ones in our Easy Quarter Million program! You could use those for 16 free Pointsbreak nights!
