I wrote previously about the awesome Big Win promotion that IHG brought back again for this quarter. My Big Win offer was for 74,000 points if I completed 6 stays with certain requirements.
In the previous Big Win offer, I scored an amazing 132,000 points! In my recent trip to China, I used 55,000 of those points to get 11 free Pointsbreak nights all at beautiful Crowne Plaza or Intercontinental Hotels. During my other nights I was strategic about where I stayed to help meet the requirements for the current Big Win offer.
Specifically, I stayed at 4 Holiday Inn Express with a cost of $46, $38, $34, and $75. I also stayed at 2 Holiday Inns at a cost of $84 (this rate included breakfast) and $54. These stays were all I needed to get the 74,000 Big Win! China luckily has some pretty affordable room rates with the exchange rate which kept my total cost down. I was able to stack several of the available promo codes which gave me at least 3000 for every stay. I was also able to get 6% cashback on some of the bookings by booking through Upromise.com.
So when all is said and done (not including pending cashback), I spent $331 and earned 101,000 points. One way to look at this is I paid $0.003 per point(one third of a cent per point!), but since I received lodging each night that I needed, that isn’t completely accurate. Since I will use these points for 5000 point a night rooms around the world, I like to think that I paid $331, received 6 nights worth of value, then they threw in another 20 free nights at Crowne Plaza or Intercontinental hotels for free! How can you beat that?
