The Movement Festival in Detroit is one of my favorites each year. Experiencing Techno where a lot of it began is a great experience and the fact that it is dirt cheap as well doesn’t hurt!

If you can eliminate the cost of your flights it makes it even sweeter. For last minute travel, I love using British Airways Avios and if I used them I could fly Miami to Detroit for 15,000 points round trip+$11. But British Airways in this case (booking on American flights) didn’t have any availability on the outbound flight.
When I have more time to book, I check out SouthWest’s fares as well. If you plan in advance, SouthWest can save you a lot of miles compared to even BA’s low rates. What I found was: This is more or less the same miles price as BA Avios but I booked this flight because of Southwest’s liberal cancellation policy. They will give you a complete refund of all miles and taxes as long as you cancel the flight 10 minutes before it leaves. They will also give you a credit towards a future flight if you pay cash instead of points. The two free checked bags also helps. A side benefit of this policy is that you can cancel and rebook your flight if the price drops or a cheaper one goes on sale. For example, the 4187 point price going from DTW to FLL is a steal but the 11K is not quite as good of a deal. If the 11K flight goes on sale between now and departure, I can rebook and pick up the points savings into my Rapid Rewards account. To fully take advantage of this possibility I booked two one way flights instead of a round trip so I could cancel and rebook just one of the flights if needed.
If the American non stop on the outbound opens up, then I can cancel the Southwest leg and book using BA Avios for just 7500 Avios one way. That will drop by total cost to 11677 miles which is awesome!
Now since SouthWest and British Airways are both transfer partners of my Chase Sapphire Preferred card I can use some of the 40,000 point sign up bonus to book all of my airfare! What are you waiting for? Let’s go! Other options would be the Chase Rapid Rewards Premier with 50,000 bonus points or the Chase British Airways card with 50,000 points.
