The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

Edit: This offer is now for 40,000 points.  But with the other benefits of the card, it is still one of my top recommendations.

Everyone asks me what the best card to get right now is and while there are many great offers right now, the best in my opinion is the Chase Sapphire Preferred.  The card itself has great benefits that I will cover in a second, but the real value is in the 50,000 Ultimate Reward Points they give you after spending $3,000 within 3 months of opening your card.

But what are Ultimate Reward Points?  They are super flexible points that can be redeemed at a 1% rate for cash, gift cards or merchandise.  However, if you want to use them for travel related expenses (hotel, car rental, airfare), you can book through Chase’s Ultimate Rewards Mall for a 1.25% rate. This makes the 50,000 sign up bonus worth $625 in free travel. However, the best use of Ultimate Rewards points in my opinion is transferring them to airline or hotel partners such as British Airways, United Airlines, or Hyatt where you should be able to easily get 2 cents per point in redemption value (on my around the world ticket, I ended up north of 6 cents per mile so it is definitely possible).  This makes the 50,000 point  sign up bonus worth a minimum of $1,000 as long as you are smart about how you use it.

The benefits of this card don’t stop with the sign on bonus though.  You will earn 1 Ultimate Reward point for every dollar that you spend on the card, so the $3000 you will spend for the sign up bonus will get you another $3000 points.  You also earn 2X points on Dining and Travel which includes restaurants and a wide variety of travel such as train tickets, cab fares and the obvious such as hotels and airfare.

This card also has no foreign transaction fees (FOREX) which means you will not pay extra fees on currencies other than USD.  This makes it an ideal card to use while travelling internationally and is something most cards don’t include.

Like most great miles earning cards, it does have an annual fee of $95 a year, but that is lower than many comparable cards, and the fee is waived for the first year.

This card also has a very sharp look to it, and instead of plastic is made out of a piece of aluminum similar the the Amex Centurion Card.  The front just has your name and Chase Sapphire Preferred on it and the rear has your account number, expiration  and signature slip on it.  I get questions and compliments on this card every day I use it.

They have announced that the 50,000 point offer is only a limited time offer so applying sooner rather than later is the best course of option.

1000 Free Points from Hilton and Visa. And up to 4000 more possible!

Well, I have said before that this business is all about getting things for free and here is another example.  Hilton and Visa are giving away 1,000 points if you sign up with an eligible visa and let them send you SMS messages to your cell.  I hate SMS spam so am planning on removing myself once the points post.  But for 1,000 free Hilton points, I will take the 6-8 messages it will take before they post.

If you have Hilton travel planned, it gets even sweeter if you put $100 or more at Hilton on the Visa you register with a 4,000 point reward.  Hilton has quite a few stackable promotions right now such as these that you can combine with this promo which would give you up to 9,000 bonus points for a weekend booking on top of what you would normally get.  Not bad!

I used my Chase Sapphire Preferred card to verify eligibility with no problems.  You do have to give your credit card number and HHonors number but since it is at Visa.com it is probably pretty safe and secure.

Hilton unveils two more promotions

Hilton is pushing forward as the best hotel point wise in 1Q 2012, especially for weekend stays.  Their first promotion is:

Make every night you stay count for more. With the More Points promotion from Hilton HHonors™, you can earn 1,000 Bonus Points per night plus an additional 5,000 Bonus Points for every weekend* stay of two nights or more at participating hotels and resorts through March 31, 2012. Now, you can earn more points while having an experience worth sharing.

5,000 bonus points for a weekend stay is pretty awesome and will beat out the double and triple points that others chains are making for most people.

The other offer they have is 2500 bonus points for booking a weekend stay if you book it on January 17.  So if you have weekend travel planned, it would be worth your while to wait until the 17th to book it.  As far as I can tell these two promotions should stack giving you 2,500+5,000+1,000+1000=9500 bonus miles on top of the normal miles you will earn.  Not too shabby!

Here is the link for the RSVP on facebook which it is looking like you have to use to get the 2500 bonus points.

Welcome to Travel With Miles!

Welcome to my new site!  I couldn’t wait until everything was perfect to get started so I wanted to just start getting some information out there for people who need it today to plan free trips around the world.  I will be coming back and editing things along the way so the site will probably be taking shape over the next few months until I have everything how I want it.  I feel that the information I provide will be the most important thing and the manner it is presented in is really secondary at this point.  So there it is, my first post.  So fasten your seatbelts, because this might be a bumpy flight!
